Review: The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones
Fairy tales with all the shine taken away from them were simply stories of desperation. Of hungry wolves devouring children and jealous stepsisters who hacked off their own toes to fit inside a glass slipper.Dee's home life is not great, so much so that she goes off to a boarding school so she can avoid being at home. But when her scholarship runs out and her school life is in jeopardy, Dee will do anything to stay away- even if that means making a deal with a Demon. In a world where people can trade body parts for any asked for reward by making a deal, what will Dee give up to continue to escape her life?
“We’re all just moments and most of us don’t matter. We study less than one percent of all humanity in our history books.” “And you’re going to be part of that one percent?” asked Dee. “I just want to matter,” he said, unsmiling. The Hearts we sold ripped out my heart, and yes I am sure that sounds cheesy (and so appropriate for the title/plot!), but it is true. This is the second book that I have now read by this author and I am pretty sure I am a fangirl now, I will consume her words and never let them go. I have no idea how making a deal with a demon- for a body part, potentially saving the world, dynamite, family drama, romance, monsters, made families, and heartbreak (even when you don't have a heart) go together, but I can confirm that they do- in the best of ways possible. For a YA alternate universe with magic, this book covered a lot of hard topics and had some potent moments that made me cheer, melt- or even cry. I was not even a little bit expecting the tears let alone emotions of any kind when I started reading, that is until I finished the book at 2am one night and had to explain to my husband why I was up so late sobbing my heart out. I highly recommend this story (like so much so that I have purchased copies for all my reader friends to experience) for anyone who like YA, an overall great story and feels. The Hearts We Sold was wholly unique and pretty much magical. I can't believe I waited so long to read this story but I am ever so glad that I finally did.
She had walked willingly into a fairy tale, into a world where she could trade her heart for her freedom. She may as well have donned a red cloak and strode into a darkened forest. She had always known there would be wolves. I chose this.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Passion Punch (Key West Escape #3) by Tricia Leedom
Passion Punch
Tricia Leedom
(Key West Escape, #3)
Published by: Firefly Hill Press
Publication date: October 22nd 2019
Genres: Adult, Adventure, Romance
When April Linus’ best friends find themselves in trouble with the Miami Mafia, the former heiress turns to an even more dangerous criminal for help… her father.
Not an easy decision for the young, single mother who found herself pregnant at nineteen and forced to choose between her trust fund and having a baby. April’s father agrees to loan her the money, if she moves home for a few months so he can get to know his grandchild. Before she can decide what to do, she comes face to face with the last man she ever expected to see again… her father’s former bodyguard who disappeared five years ago after she slept with him.
Black Ops operative Jonas Ostergaard made a nearly fatal mistake the last time he was in Key West. After working his way into Philip Linus’ circle of trust, Jonas let the Arms Dealer’s beautiful, kindhearted daughter distract him from his mission. He was yanked off the job by his superiors, but now he’s back to stop Linus from selling a dangerous new technology on the black market.
Needing to prove himself to save his job, Jonas is determined to keep his distance from April this time. But when he suspects she knows more about her father’s illegal business dealings than she admits, he’s torn between protecting her and uncovering the truth.
Passion ignites when April and Jonas end up on the run dodging arms dealers in the steamy Amazon rainforest, but April wonders what kind of relationship she could have with a man who has more secrets than she does. A man who could disappear at any moment and leave her heart in tatters.
Trapped between loyalty to her father and a new allegiance with the man she’s falling in love with, April realizes none of it will matter if they don’t escape the jungle alive.

My Review: 5 Out Of 5 Hearts Genre: Heart, Romance, Suspense-- April has a completely new life and a made family that has supported her for the last five years after she turned her back on her powerful father and his illegal ways. But when one of her friends is in trouble, April puts aside her feelings about her father to help her friend out. But she never expected Jonas to show back up in her life. I have been having a really hard time getting into books recently, probably due more to me and my reading funk then the books to be honest, but somehow, without fail, Tricia is able to instantly engage me in her world, right from page one. I picked up this story and did not want to put it down until I finished, real life be damned. Passion Punch is my third read in the Key West Escape series and I have loved each one. While technically these are all standalone stories with a different couple and mystery in each book, they all take place in the same small world and the characters cross over. I highly recommend reading the series in order for the full effect and backstory, BUT feel free to jump into the series wherever you want. We have met April a few times now throughout the series, so I feel like I had a pretty good idea about the kind of person she is with her big heart and forgiving ways. She was the spoiled rich girl who never really acted spoiled, but was kind and generous with her money and feelings and had to make a hard choice. But Jonas has basically been a stealth ninja, sneaking into the background occasionally but never explaining the whys and hows and I had SO MANY questions about him. Well, Passion Punch answered them all and then some and I heart Jonas and his loneliness, poor self view and danger seeking ways. I just wanted to hug the man and tell him he has worth regardless of his upbringing...and then maybe feel him up a little...you know, for research sake... Overall I really enjoyed this book. I never expected the rest of the the series to live up to Rum Runner, which was absolutely fantastic, but I was wrong. Each book in the series has the perfect mix of romance, action/adventure, danger and a dash of humor that makes me fly through the pages yet at the same time I never want it to end. The ending to this was everything I hoped for, basically a reunion with all my favorite characters and even though there are no more Ostergaard brothers, I would love another book set here! Tricia is a fantastic romantic suspense author and I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves the genre or wants the perfect escapism read and I will attempt to patiently wait for more.

"Wickedly charming, flirty, and clever. This is the ultimate friends to lovers story. I loved it!" (Becky Monson, number-one best-selling author of the Spinster series) "You'll want to crawl between the covers of this book and never leave." (Whitney Dineen, number-one best-selling author of Relatively Normal) Loveless is more than a name, it's a curse. I, Emma Loveless, have a destiny. It's not the greatest of destinies, but when you have a name like Loveless, what can you do? I'm cursed to always be the friend, never the girlfriend. Unless you count my love affair with Duncan Hines, Dr. Pepper, and the ever-lovable Pillsbury Doughboy. They've seen me through it all, but a girl needs more than refined sugar to curl up to every night. It doesn't help that I have a meddling, albeit wonderful, mother who can't help playing matchmaker. Thanks to her, I can say I've been on a date with a felon. Now she swears she's found the one for me, her new optometrist, Dr. Sawyer King. Meanwhile, I'm preparing for the inevitable restraining order. That is, until I meet the sexy doctor and have to admit my mother is right - love at first sight does exist. Unfortunately, my last name means business. Not only do I find myself in the friend zone, but also the twilight zone. Only in my world would Mr. Right turn into my stepbrother. To top it off, he brings with him a wicked stepmother who will do anything to keep us apart. Despite all this my heart - or is that my mom? - keeps telling me Sawyer is the one. But what if true love isn't strong enough to interfere with my destiny? It'll be me and the Doughboy...for eternity.
