My Review:

4.5 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Romance, Teen--

Liza is everyone's prime candidate to place in the winter Olympics for figure skating next year, but the expectations are hard to manage. When Liza has an encounter with a cute boy named Braden, she is so out of her league, knowing nothing about boys or how to interact with them. But will trying to get to know Braden ruin her resolve for her ultimate goal of a gold medal at the Olympics?

I grew up watching the movie The Cutting Edge at least once a week and every ice skating competition that was televised, so when I stumbled across this book, I immediately knew I had to read it. I had high expectations, but honestly, I was not let down. The story was at heart a romance, but it was also one girl's fight to accomplish her goals. The story was cute, sweet, stressful and emotional. I found time passing quickly without me even noticing it as well as me being caught up in every emotion right along with Liza. I rooted for the ice skating just as much as the relationship.

The author had ups and downs presented in the book that Liza realistically had to face. Each competitions was a struggle and I had no idea how they would play out. This was not a fairytale world, Liza did not win everything just because she was the main character. I found myself on the edge of my seat while reading the parts about the competitions, not sure if she would fall, pull off a move, or even place. The author made the world of figure skating come alive for me as if I was watching her skate instead of just reading about it.

Liza was the main character and the author crafted her in such a way that I could not help but to empathize with her. Sure she was totally spoiled when it came to monetary things and the ability to reach for her dreams. But that being said, she worked her ass off for her goals and she was no way the spoiled brat. She was sweet, caring and completely unprepared for boys, relationships, and all the things that make up being 19. I really enjoyed the dynamic between her and Braden, where almost everything was trial and error. Braden wanted to help and be supportive, but was able to back off and give Liza space when needed without getting his feelings hurt. He really was a good guy. As a side note, the cabin situation caused me just as much heartache as Liza, that's how invested in them that I was.

I loved all the side characters, like Holly (who I would love to read a book about, hint hint), Courtney and the surprising side to Sam. This was such a feel good story, I enjoyed every minute of it. I now need to get my hands on Courtney and Emily's books because I love the author's writing style, I enjoy the ice skating world and I liked the people they were in this book. Overall, this was a fun emotional read that can be enjoyed by anyone who likes (clean) romance as well as the thrill of competition.

I received this title in return for my honest review.

Author Bio:

Jennifer Comeaux is a tax accountant by day, writer by night. There aren’t any ice rinks near her home in south Louisiana, but she’s a diehard figure skating fan and loves to write stories of romance set in the world of competitive skating. One of her favorite pastimes is traveling to competitions, where she can experience all the glitz and drama that inspire her writing. When she’s not writing, traveling, or calculating taxes, you can find her feeding her television addiction.
