My Review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Heart, Romance, Supernatural, Teen--

Andie has spent the summer in her new town hanging out at the movie theater in hopes that heart-throb Colt will finally really see her. When he volunteers to drive her to school for the first day she figures this is her chance for him to make a move. But instead of the happily ever after she hopes, she blows her first day of school- and then wakes up to live it again and again.

I grew up watching the movie Groundhogs Day, loving every minute of the main character relive the same day over and over again, trying to figure out what the point of everything is and learning so many lessons (usually against his will). Well, Pretty in Punxsutawney had all the charm of the classic movie but with the drama of high school as the setting and classic 80's movies for flair. Basically this was a mashup off all the 80's movies that my mom forced me to watch that I love to quote, used as life lessons and a bonding opportunity for the main character and her mom. If you are looking for a feel good-good book you have come to the right place.

I will admit that I was not a super fan of Andie at the start of the story predominantly due to how desperate she seemed to be for Colt's attention. She basically threw herself at him time after time, with no idea how that made her seem- and even when she was aware it made her desperate, she still tried. I loved watching her grow and find/ self confidence and learn what was important and what made her happy- I was also entertained by watching her gain random skills such as smoky eye makeup, walking in high heels and how to actually dance- and that her struggles to gain new skills was real and time consuming.

Overall I found this to be an adorable ride down pop-culture lane that I highly recommend for anyone who loves second (and a few more...) chances and accepting who you are regardless of the majority. Get ready to be charmed by Andie and her style, choices and struggles to decide if she wants to standout or blend in with the crowd.

I reviewed a complimentary copy of this title.

Author Bio:

Laurie Boyle Crompton is the YA author of the upcoming PRETTY IN PUNXSUTAWNEY (Blink/HarperCollins 2019) as well as ADRENALINE CRUSH (Macmillan/2014, Square Fish/2016), BLAZE (or Love in the Time of Supervillains), THE REAL PROM QUEENS OF WESTFIELD HIGH and LOVE AND VANDALISM (Sourcebooks/2013, 2014, 2017). Growing up in ‘Pennsyltucky’ in the 1980s, Laurie couldn't wait to escape rural life. After saving up her tips from waitressing at a local greasy spoon at 18 she packed up her acid wash jeans and moved to NY. Where everyone else had stopped wearing acid wash.

She graduated first in her class from St. John’s University with a BA in English and Journalism. Since then she’s written for national magazines like ALLURE, survived a teaching stint at an all-boy high school, and appeared on Good Day New York several times as a Toy Expert. And yes, ‘toy expert’ is an actual profession. Really.

She has lived in places like Orlando, Florida where she and her husband spent all of their spare time and money visiting theme parks before moving to the Cotswolds in England for six months, which was every bit as cool as that sounds. The Cromptons are now back in New York where their two children resent never going to Disney.

Laurie occasionally enjoys hanging out in fields of blooming flowers and also refering to herself in the third person.
