For the first time in his life, Rain Ryland belongs. He’s found a home with the wolf shifters of New Wurzburg and is no-holds-barred in love with Friederike Burkhart, their soon-to-be alpha. But the ascension to power is never easy for a new alpha, and challengers will come from an unlikely source—and bring into jeopardy not just Freddie’s position as alpha but her blooming relationship with Rain. Rain has never shied away from a challenge—or a fight. And he’s ready to fight like hell for the woman he loves. But then a vision shows him that the biggest challenge of all to Freddie isn’t to her alpha status but against her life...and he’s the one who delivers the killing blow.

My Review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Mystery, Romance, Supernatural, Suspense, Teen, Werewolves, Witches, Zombies--

Moral of the story is that Rain seriously can not catch a break! This boy keeps finding himself in terrible situations, and only his own street smarts, level head and sheer determination are the tools needed to save the day. This sequel took the happy ending of Haven and ripped it apart, leaving a devastated Rain only a week to pick up the pieces of his life as well as solve a dangerous and deadly mystery and get the girl he loves before the Alpha cerimony.

The plot was fast paced and engaging, the mystery was twisty, and the action was fabulous, but my favorite part of this story was the characters. I just adore Rain, I would not change a thing about him and I like the spin on this series that he is the narrator and perfectly open about his feelings and past with the reader. Another twist I enjoy about this series is that Freddie is the alpha all powerful wolf as a teenage girl and for the most part, most people accept it as fact. But we also have some other great side characters like Grant with his unknown motivations and the wereolf pack/ cousins to help balance out the dynamic. Can we just spend a minute talking about how badass Petra was? She singlehandedly was fighting off all the zombies on her own, totally handaling it like it was just another day- which in her life, it totally was. I know Freddie is considered the ultimate female here since she is the Alpha werewolf and super dominant, but Petra I think is right up there and can hold her own. I would love for her to get her own book in this world! Ok, tangent over.

I feel like where most things were tied up well, this sequel felt a little like there could be a third book in the series. I had no idea there was going to be a second with how perfect the ending was to Haven, but with this I think another book could be an option- but maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part since I am not sure I am ready to say goodbye to Rain and this moderetely dysfunctional werewolf pack. I think this siries is perfect for anyone who loves a solid and empathetic narrator who tries to do the right thing, girls taking charge, all things werewolf, shady yet powerful witches and even a zombie or two thrown in.

Catch up on the series with Haven- which is currently free to purchase!

Book Blurb:

We all hold a beast inside. The only difference is what form it takes when freed.

Rain Ryland has never belonged anywhere, He’s used to people judging him for his rough background, his intimidating size, and now, his orphan status. He’s always been on the outside, looking in, and he’s fine with that. Until he moves to New Wurzburg and meets Friederike Burkhart.

Freddie isn’t like normal teen girls, though. And someone wants her dead for it. Freddie warns he’d better stay far away if he wants to stay alive, but Rain’s never been good at running from trouble. For the first time, Rain has something worth fighting for, worth living for. Worth dying for.

Year One

Bloodshed Academy Book 1

by Jen L. Grey

Genre: Paranormal Academy Romance

Only the strongest survive ... most of the time

Raven may be a shifter, but she's always felt separate from her wolf. She never knew it should be different. Then, a stranger showed up in her hometown, turning her world upside down and recruiting her for the elite Bloodshed Academy.

Everything she's ever known gets challenged, and Raven found herself in impossible situations. Making matters worse was the fact that one of the strongest alphas at school caught her eye. And he made her feel things she didn't understand.

The school may only recruit the best of the best, the strongest in their world, but there was something more about Raven. When push comes to shove, she had to decide if she's willing to fight for what she's come to love ... or run from a life she couldn't quite accept.

vvVampire Diaries meets Daughter of the Moon in YEAR ONE, a steamy academy romance story for readers that love snark and strong alphas.

Goodreads | Amazon | Audible

My Review:

5 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Romance, Supernatural, Teen, Urban Fantasy, Vampires, Werewolves--

Raven has spent her whole life being told her place in the back, which is basically only to support her boyfriend, the future alpha, and to never want anything for herself. Well, the human half of Raven may be tolerant of the idea, but her wolf side wants to be free and in charge. When a scout for the elite supernatural academy shows up at her high school graduation, the entire pack is shocked that he came to recruit Raven. Raven has an opportunity to get out of her place in the pack and be something more, that is if she can survive the danger that is Bloodshed Academy.

When I stumbled across this book, I was instantly sold- werewolves mixed with a magical academy, yes please! I am a sucker for both those genres alone, but mixed together I had very high hopes for this story- it also didn't hurt that the cover is so pretty. I am happy to report that Year One was fast and fun, something that I could pick up and completely immerse myself to the drama and world building that the author set up. There was so much going on in the story, be it plot or supernatural creatures, and yet the components all meshed well together. I will admit that there was a romance that I ship hardcore and I only hope for the best in the future books, but that may be wishful on my part. And not only was there romance, there was great friendships that kept me entertained and hoping for more banter and interactions.

The ending was not at all the ending, instead just a pause in all the crazy that Raven has found herself involved in. You better believe that I will be here for the next book as soon as possible, thank goodness it is already out! This series is the perfect choice for anyone who likes werewolves, magical academies, relationship dynamics, mystery and and secrets.

Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.

My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.

My Review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Heart-Wrenching, Romance, Supernatural, Suspense, Werewolves--

What an epic conclusion to a heart wrenching series! This has been five books in the making to get to this ending, but man was it so well done! Everything was wrapped up perfectly and I really could not ask for anything more from this series. Keep in mind that The New Dawn books should be read in order, so even though each book featured it's own couple falling in love, the underlying plot and overall conflict was the same. Do your self a favor and start with the first book, Winter Wolf and fall in love with Katalina and Bass and the romance that triggered it all. This review will be quick since I don't want to spoil anything and I just feel like this is something to be experienced instead of being told about.

That being said, I actually thought this was going to be told from Bass and Katalina's view points, but instead, a new couple Eva and John were introduced. Eva was a human dealing with loss and heartache and John was the strong stoic wolf who was more animal than man. I liked watching the two very different personalities come together, seeing John know the truth about his feelings but tiptoe around Eva so he doesn't scare her off and Eva learn to cope with her overwhelming feelings, both good and bad. I loved their relationship, but I was sad that this was not really a true Bass and Katalina story. This was a nice reunion overall though with all the characters from the previous books showing up to play a part in the war. There were a lot of different narrators to help make this a well rounded story and I loved seeing everyone again.

I really love all things werewolf and wolfy mating bonds and this series is the perfect paranormal romance series, full of romance and love, as well as action, suspense and hard choices.

My Review:

3.5 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Ghosts, Mystery, Romance, Supernatural, Suspense, Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Zombies--

I found Shadow Magic to be an interesting play on the Magical Academy genre, with older characters in their later 20s instead of the younger age group (18ish year olds) I am use to. I did have some questions about why the new college students were so old, and the only reason I can deduce is that the supernaturals live hundreds of years so maybe they start college later and/or mature later. There was a lot of tongue in cheek type humor in the story, especially when pertaining to the names of the characters and creatures, and the plot moved along at a nice pace. My favorite part of the story was the world building which was so huge and detailed, with all kinds of paranormal kinds represented as well as layers of society and politics I appreciated.

This book had a basically impossible love triangle in it. There was Dante, the Grim Reaper, who was a sharp dresser and understood the loneliness that lived in Serena's soul. And then there was Blake, the Vampire player frat boy who wants to have fun with Serena but knows she is lying to him. Basically both relationships are doomed from the start since both guys admit that they can't date outside their species, but I really really love a certain sweet, broody reaper and hope for them to defy the odds and have an epic romance!

The main mystery Serena is investigating is basically resolved, but the ending has a shocking twist that the next book in the series will need to resolve. This is the perfect series for anyone looking to read an action packed supernatural academy read with every kind of paranormal creature possible, lots of drama and a touch of mystery (and maybe the next book will have more romance!).

My Review:

5 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Faeries, Heart-Wrenching, Romance, Royal-Court, Supernatural, Werewolves, Witches--

Wow, what a freaking roller coaster of emotions this book took me on. Even as I sit here writing my review I feel like I am mildly in shock and waiting for more to happen even though the book is over. Keep in mind that this is the 9th book in the series which has to be read in order otherwise you will understand probably nothing about the book.

My poor poor heart! I wasn't sure I could make it through this book, every page made my heart feel like it was cracking open inch by inch. I was drowning in feelings, the angst and heartbreak so strong I didn't know how the characters (cough cough Dastien)could take anymore. The one thing that kept me turning the pages and not curled in a sad ball of tears was the fact (or rather the hope) that there would be some kind of happy ending. I need Dastien and Tessa to be together, they are one of my all time favorite werewolf romances. I can say with confidence now that the series gets more serious as it goes and tugs my emotions and I am not sure I will survive any more- and yet I know I will be begging for the next book in this wonderful series. Feel free to just rip out my heart now, it might be kinder. And I know that Tessa was the one who got kidnapped and had her life completely altered, but Dastien was the one I really felt for- who is hurt the most: the one who doesn't know what they lost, or the one who remembers and knows exactly what is gone?

“You need to change.”

I looked down at what I was wearing.

“I should?”

“You’re wearing running shorts and a T-shirt. Who do you think you’re seducing in that?” She waved her hand up and down at me as if I were wearing something severely offensive.

I opened my mouth for a second then looked down again and back at her. “I guess no one since I’m changing now.”

“Good talk.”

This was such a great installment, the huge amount of feels and romance that were wrapped in a convenient book package was surprising. With each book release, I decide that is my new favorite, and this was no exception- Alpha Erased is my new favorite. This is so worth the read- all my fangirling aside! I loved getting to see Samantha again and I really want the next book that comes out in this world to be hers!

My Review:

5 Out OF 5 Stars

Genre: Mystery, Romance, Supernatural, Suspense, Teen, Urban Fantasy, Vampires, Werewolves, Witches--

Mina has spent all her short life training to be a Reaper, the human police that keep the supernatural communities in check, trying to live up to her Van Helsing name. When on a mission, something unexpected happens and next thing Mina knows is that she in a hospital, weeks are missing from her memory and she is accused of murder. Mina is about to embark on the most dangerous mission yet, except this time she will be alone and only have her wits to keep her safe.

I really loved this book! I went into the story with no expectations or info, basically a blank slate and ended up discovering a fast paced engaging read that I could not put down until I reached the end- and now I am attempting to patiently wait the few months until the next book comes out. Van Helsing Academy fits perfectly into my current magical academy obsession, with a reform/therapy aspect to it that changes things up a little bit. This is the way all retellings should be, with a touch of the original story as the backbone to create something so fun and different. I loved that this was very much so a mystery, it just so happened to be set in a supernatural world full of all kinds of paranormal creatures, and there was the added bonus that I loved of having a romance too. I found the plot to be twisty with all kinds of surprises, both good and bad, that kept me on my toes and the supernatural world building was detailed and unique.

This is the second book I have read from this author, two different series, and I can easily say that she writes great characters who are conflicted and flawed but you root for them anyway. I enjoyed that while Mina had the capabilities to be the special snowflake "chosen one", she wasn't- instead she was a hard worker who tried to always do the right thing, even if that meant she had to fight for it. I think this is the perfect next read for anyone who likes who like me enjoys the magical academy genre, fans of werewolf shenanigans, capable girls ready to save the day and detailed conspiracies!

Shift Out Of Luck

Brimstone Inc Book 2 by Abigail Owen

Genre: Paranormal Romance

The Montagues and Capulets have nothing on the Canis and Banes wolf packs. The two have been feuding for ages. The brutal murder of the Banes’ alpha only added fuel to the fire. And now there’s only one way to bring peace—the current alphas of each pack, Marrok and Tala, need a mating of convenience.

Tala has her doubts. A thousand of them.

Never mind that Marrok drives her body to levels of desire her vibrator has trouble keeping up with. If she can’t get her inner wolf—or her people—on board, forget peace, because she'll lose the tenuous control she has over the Canis pack. Her new mate is just so damn alpha. He’d better learn to play nice or Tala will have to show him who’s boss.

But Marrok has plans of his own, and nothing and no one, not even Tala herself, can resist an alpha...

This novella was previously self published as The Worse for Were but has undergone a complete re-edit. Scenes were added, things were changed, but the kissing still remains!

My Review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Romance, Supernatural, Werewolves--

Ok disclaimer here. I had no idea that Shift Out Of Luck was the second in a series OR that it was a novella. I like to always start with the first book in a series, so I was miffed when I began the book and realized I was missing a little bit of the story- or actually, maybe the world building I was confused about since the relationship started on page one here. That being said, I would love to go back now and read the first story so fill in the blanks about whatever Brimstone is and I for sure want to read more since this was fun and really easy read to spend a hour or so on. I usually do not read novellas but this had cute character development and a fast paced plot so I don't feel like I was missing anything- that being sad, I would totally read this if it were a full length novel I liked the characters so much.

This was very much a werewolf romance story which I am always a sucker for- through in the mate bond and I am a goner. The story was dual narrated (the only way a romance should be in my totally biased opinion) by the two main characters/love interests. Marrok was born to be the alpha of his pack, groomed from birth to take his place- but he is not your normal alpha. Instead he is understanding and adaptable, caring about all of his pack, approachable- and can cook. I loved him from the start and rooted for him to get his happily ever after. Tala was more prickly and hard for me to figure out at first. I loved that the author took a different approach with a female alpha and we saw her struggle first hand to fight for her pack when every thing was against her. She could never look weak and I felt for her once I understood the issue.

Overall I found this to be sweet, steamy and fast, something I got lost in this afternoon for some quick escapism. I recommend this for anyone who enjoys paranormal romances, werewolf love stories and great character building.
