My Review:

4.5 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Another-World, Mystery, Romance, Royal-Court, Supernatural, Suspense, Vampires, Witches--

Daxx has no idea where she is when she wakes up in an odd world and has a creature looking over her. When he tells her to come with him if she wants to have a chance of surviving the next few minutes, Daxx is pretty sure she has no choice. To make matters even more complicated, she was informed that she is the prophesied Huntress they have been waiting hundreds of years for, to bring the chaos of the realms to peace. Daxx is convinced that she is dreaming, but if she isn't...

I thought the synopsis sounded interesting when I first came across this book, but I was completely enamored with the actual story once I started reading- and side note, the synopsis does not do the story justice. There was action and danger, a really unique supernatural system and alternate realm, a multitude of developed interesting characters, prophecies, a mystery and a romance I never saw coming. The way Risk mixed this fantastical world and it's problems with the real world I was 100% committed to this tale and wanted to see where it would take me.

The story is narrated by Daxx, a woman who was thrown into a crazy, pretty unreal scenario yet she just rolls with the punches. I loved that even while she believed that she was dreaming or hallucinating, she was level headed and rational, making informed choices and true to her career of bounty hunting. She was nobody's toy or tool and she made sure all the giant, domineering men in her life knew that. And speaking of "her men", It was great that there was completely different relationship dynamics between Daxx and each guy, even her love interests were treated different. I feel like I really got the opportunity to know each of the brother and now I want to see what will happen with each of them.

I actually really love that each book in the series is a different character's story all while in the same overall plot line, making it so that you can kinda sorta pick up one book and read it as if it was a standalone romance. I highly recommend starting with this book, The Huntress, since it does such a great job of introducing the world and setting up the backstory with the brothers and the evil Marcus. I will admit that I was a little surprised by Daxx's choice when it came to the prophecy (because it would not have been my choice, just saying) but I really enjoyed the book and look forward to continue my journey into the Alterealm.

The Empath(The Alterealm #3)

A century of questions brought no answers, until now.

A century always on the move, never aging and not being able to form relationships, Alona has far more questions than answers. Absorbing the emotional turmoil of others is bad enough, with the headaches, nausea and blackouts, but it is the loneliness that is a never-ending ache.

A bizarre encounter with a crazy-erratic redhead in a nightclub brings her the promise of answers, if only she can open her mind to the possibilities. Life will change in ways she never thought possible, or could ever imagine.

Author Bio:

J. Risk is a pseudonym used by Author Jacqueline Paige (Multi-published Paranormal Romance author of The Magic Seasons series, The Hidden Senses Trilogy, The Dream Series and more)

I wanted to write a story that would fit into new adult levels as well as adult. Something that was serious with fun elements--paranormal / fantasy that everyone could read and enjoy.

I've decided to use J. Risk as the pen name for this to separate this series from my other writing which is definitely adult reading material.

Jacqueline Paige lives in Ontario in a small town that's part of the popular Georgian Triangle area.

She began her writing career in 2006 and since her first published works in 2009 she hasn't stopped. Jacqueline describes her writing as "all things paranormal", which she has proven is her niche with stories of witches, ghosts, physics and shifters now on the shelves.

When Jacqueline isn't lost in her writing she spends time with her five children, most of whom are finally able to look after her instead of the other way around. Together they do random road trips, that usually end up with them lost, shopping trips where they push every button in the toy aisle, hiking when there's enough time to escape and bizarre things like creating new daring recipes in the kitchen. She's a grandmother to four (so far) and looks forward to corrupting many more in the years to come.

    1. I've only had that happen a few times (so far) when it does I grab a pen and notebook and wtite a random scene that I may have thought about and that usually does the trick.
