Blog Review Tour & Giveaway: Premonition (The Division #1) by Leigh Walker
Book Blurb:
Premonition by Leigh Walker
Genre: YA Sci-fi/Romance
Release Date: July 19th 2017
When Riley heads off to boarding school for a summer work-study program, she knows it'll be demanding. What she doesn't expect? To be thrust into an intense physical training program described as special, exclusive and worst of all--top-secret. She signed up for tuition assistance, not to be held in a secret government facility for boot camp...
Welcome to The Division, the government agency that's so classified, most United States senators have never heard of it.
The Division wants Riley bad, but she can't figure out why. Skeptical of what she's being told, Riley's determined to uncover the truth. Boot camp is intense, physically and mentally draining. The upside? One of her new teammates is the cutest boy ever. Watching Finn hit the gym wearing a tank top doesn't suck--although sometimes his brooding attitude does. But when training forces Riley to confront her tragic past, even Finn's big biceps aren't enough to make her want to stay...
Beware: The Division isn't something you just walk away from. You better run.
Riley realizes her capabilities and strengths are greater than she'd ever imagined. But she also learns she wasn't just chosen for this special program...
She was made for it.

My Review:
4 Out Of 5 Stars
Genre: Mystery, Supernatural, Suspense, Teen--
Riley has had a hard time since her sister and father died and her mother copes by being consistently drunk, leaving Riley to fend for herself. When an opportunity arises for her to get a scholarship and attend a prestigious boarding school, Riley jumps at the chance to escape her current situation. But her new summer assignment at the school is not what she was hoping for and now she is in over her head in what might be a government recruitment program she never wanted to participate in.
I was lured into reading this book due to the super cool eye catching cover, making me want to get my hands on the book before I even knew what it was going to be about. And then I got around to reading the synopsis and knew I had to know more.
I was reading some other reviews on the story after I finished reading, and I guess this book was somewhere down the line compared to Hunger Games and I have no idea why- if you go into this story and expect something like Hunger Games you will be disappointed, because this is not at all like Hunger Games- it's not even a dystopian, more a teen sci-fy action mystery. If you go into this book with an open mind and maybe expect something a little more closely related to the X-men, then you will highly enjoy the story.
Wow this was a rough deal for Riley. She went form a bad home life to being sucked into some intensive training with secrets and lies all around, and nobody would answer her questions or give her a straight answer. I spent my time in the story alternating between wanting to wrap her in a blanket and whisk her away from the situation to cheering her on and wanting her to kick butt. Riley was a very empathetic character that I could relate too, as well as feel the emotions she was experiencing (props to the author for her writing style that let me connect to her characters). She spent most of the book being confused (as did I) and after completing crazy tasks she was only given hints and parts of the secrets she so desperately needed. I am interested to see what Riley will be further capable to come.
I was a little miffed by the seemingly instalove that Riley felt for Finn, letting it cause her anxiety, grief, and anger after only knowing him for pretty much a week (I felt so uncomfortable and awkward for her that I wanted to do an intervention)- and he was a jerk to her in most of that time. But, then the last few pages of the story made that so much easier to accept and I am pretty much ok with the instalove used correctly in this situation because there was the best of reasons for it.
This book was just the start of a longer journey for our characters, a small taste of the world that is to come next and I look very much so look forward to the next book and finding out more about Riley's teammates. I have become invested in Riley's life and I wonder which path she will end up taking. Life may have been hard for Riley already, but I feel that her hardest struggles are just beginning. I highly recommend this fast, engaging, and surprising read.
I received this title for reviewing purposes.
