ACADEMY OF THE ELITES (Untamed Magic #1) by Alexis Calder
Pub. Date: October 1, 2019
Publisher: Alexis Calder
Formats: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 139
My name is Raven Winters and I’m a mage. Who the hell knew?
When I somehow summon fire in an act of self defense, I’m given two choices by the magic cops: attend some stuck-up magic school, or go to magic jail.
Well, shit. There go my plans for the next year. Apparently, I have Untamed Magic, whatever the hell that means. And I’ve got a year to get it under control at this magic academy that’s basically a finishing school for the elite. Everyone here is somebody important. And rich. Except for me.
Which paints quite the target on my back. Being the token poor kid is bad enough. Throw in that I somehow form a mating bond with four of the school’s most eligible bachelors. Oh yeah, and add in the fact that someone is trying to kill me. FML.

My Review:
4.5 Out Of 5 Stars
Genre: Another-World, New Adult, Mystery, Reverse Harem, Supernatural, Vampires, Werewolves, Witches--
Raven has no idea what happened, she was being attacked by two men in an alley and next thing she knew she was basically arrested by magical police, dragged to a secret compound and told she killed those men with fire, informed she might be a mage and she is now forced to attend what is basically a magical college and has a year to get her life figured out before she will be imprisoned or worse. Yeah, to say that her life is in shambles is an understatement.
This was like the best mind candy I have had in a while! Untamed Magic was short and fun, no heavy thoughts or overly complicated plot/characters to try and analyze, instead you can just pick of the story and get sucked into this super fun romp. I will admit that I was a little worried as to what I was getting myself into since the first 20% of the book was a whirlwind with no discernible plot line and then some sexy incubus sex, I thought this might just be a sex book disguised as a story. But it wasn't! After that first sexual encounter, the sex took a back seat to the storyline and the story became more interesting and engaging. I will say that since this is such a short book, not a lot of world building or in depth characterizations occurred, but this was a great outline that I hope the next book will build on.
And yes, this is a magical school- that just so happens to be a reverse harem. I know academy books are the in thing right now, and I am so there for it, willing to read all the stories to get my adult HP vibe. I liked that while this book introduced three (maybe 4, I am uncertain if there will be twin action or not) of the males interested in Raven, she actually only has sex with one of the men- and that was only in dreams, not real life. I appreciate the slow burn aspect of the story, where we can get to know the characters before the book/series focuses on the sex. We get an incubus, an alpha werewolf (who is my favorite!) and a mage twin- and I love that we get all three of their point of views along with Raven in the story.
I can't wait to see what direction the next book will go in, especially with the cliffhanger ending this one had! I was so entertained by the fluff that was Untamed Magic, the perfect escapism reading that I needed and I recommend it for anyone who likes Reverse Harems, magic, magical school stories, mystery, action and random twists.
Author Bio:
Alexis Calder writes sassy heroines and sexy heroes with a sprinkle of sarcasm. She lives in the Rockies and drinks far too much coffee and just the right amount of wine.
