Review: The Ash Moon (The Ariane Trilogy #1) by Michelle Dare

Book Blurb:

A kept secret. A life altered. A new journey.

Ariane lived her life one book at a time. She would never have guessed those books were about to change everything.

They led her to Orion.

Tall, dark, with eyes only for her. The rest of the world ceased to exist when Orion was around. But during a fateful ash moon, he shifted into a wolf. Ari thought she was dreaming, but she’d recognize those eyes anywhere.

Fiction became reality. Fantasy was actually history. And soon, Ari would learn her role in it.

A pack war was on the horizon, and she was the only one who could stop it.

Nothing would ever be as it once was, because Ariane was now part of the Avynwood Pack.

My Review:

4.5 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Mystery, Romance, Supernatural, Suspense, Teen, Vampires, Werewolves--

Ariane is completely obsessed with a paranormal romance book series so when during a book signing the author Lealla invites her to an after party, Ariane is ecstatic. At the party, she meets a devastatingly handsome boy named Orion who seems to only have eyes for her. Pretty soon Ariane is thrown into a new world full of all kinds of supernatural creatures and dangers she had no idea were real outside the pages of her favorite books.

Ok let's be honest that the relationship between Orion and Ariane meets the perfect definition of "whirlwind romance", Ariane is way too trusting/naive, and yet I really loved all the werewolf mate bond action! Yes, there were times where I wanted to shake Ariane and I rolled my eyes occasionally, but I ate up all the sweet, overwhelming, gushy love scenes. This was very much a paranormal Soap Opera, and I mean that in the best of ways. Yep, this is just the way that I like my werewolf stories.

I enjoyed that this was equal parts romance and paranormal mystery/action, not one part took over the other. It was also a really cool story idea that the author in the book tells factual werewolf meet cute stories and everyone just assumes it is all fictional, even when the featured guys come to the book events and cover model. Talking about hiding in plain sight.

I loved watching Ariane grow and evolve as a character, from a simple delicate human to a fierce warrior in her own right. And Orion with his obvious devotion was so adorable. Ford is one of my favorite characters (even though he is not a main character), all the scenes he was in were really funny and I looked forward to him popping in randomly. His mind reading skills were so inappropriate. I really like that Michelle took a completely different take on vampires, adding a light-hearted quality that I usually do not see in the paranormal world. In general, I really liked this version of vampires, throwing almost all myths on their head. As a side note, all the side characters were very well developed and helped to give depth to the plot and at times some great moments of humor (Flirty Paige is the best!).

I am so into this book now, it just got better and better as the story progressed and now I can't wait to jump into the next book because I have no idea how this will end- huge shocking cliffhanger, fyi, you will need the second book asap. I am hoping for a HEA from the trilogy- but with who... and not everyone will survive
