Review: Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas

Book Blurb:

"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.

It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend."

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

My Review:

5 Out Of 5 Stars

Celaena is back in the second book in the Throne of Glass series. This book picks up a few months after Celaena beat the odds and became the King's Champion. She comes back from a mission with the severed head of the kings enemy, many in a long string of people she has been sent to dispatch as his assassin. She has a secret though. The people she is sent to kill she secretly helps to fake their deaths and get away from the kings rule. But no one can know because Choal's life is on the line if she messes up. And he has no idea. Celeana is sent to kill Archer, a man who knew her from her past, and it sets off a chain of events that may bring down the kingdom.

Oh my God! I loved this book. The first one I was only eh about, but when I got a chance to read the second book I thought sure why not. And fell absolutely in love with it. I read it in one sitting because I could not help myself. And it is a 450ish page book too. Do not expect happiness and delight, but instead darkness and death. It was a very heart wrenching story and I felt for the three main characters Celeana, Chaol and Dorian.

Celeana gets a brief taste of pure happiness in this book, but it was snatched away from her in a horrific way and I am not sure it can ever be remade. Which is sad because I love who she was with, I want it to be back! It also seems that Celeana has a secret she has not shared with anyone, and its kind of a big deal.

Dorian is a very nice guy, and he would make an amazing king, but not a good match for Celeana, and I want him to move on. Chaol on the other hand is amazing for Celeana, but I am afraid he knows too much and they will never find the happiness they both deserve.

When I first read the book I gave it 4 stars for how depressed it made me at the end because I was so wrapped up in the characters and the plot. Excellent writing. I want the next book to be about redemption and not sorrow. And add in a whole lot of love and happiness please.
