Since Beth writes such a romantic series, I was really curious as to what her favorite romantic movies are and this is the fabulos list that she came up with.

My Top Ten Favorite Romantic Movies

1. When Harry Met Sally- In my opinion, this is Nora Ephron’s BEST movie. I love the dialogue, the way New York City is a secondary character, the neurotic leads (Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal), and the epic ending that takes place on New Year’s Eve.

2. The Holiday- Two women troubled with guy-problems swap homes in each other's countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love. If that doesn’t sound like the perfect recipe for a RomCom I don’t know what does? From the snowy scenes in the English countryside to all those moments with Jude Law, this movie is high on my rewatchable list.

3. Pride and Prejudice (the 1995 BBC Version)- I know there are a lot of versions of Pride and Prejudice out there, but if you haven’t seen THIS version, it’s a must! Colin Firth doesn’t just play Darcy, he IS Darcy. I’ve probably watched this miniseries at least a hundred times and could easily watch it a hundred more.

4. Before Sunrise-Two twentysomethings meet on a European train and decide to spend theday exploring Vienna together. I loved this movie SO much as a teenager that I included Vienna as one of my stops when I backpacked in Europe in college. The two sequels (Before Sunset and Before Midnight) are also good, but Before Sunrise is still my favorite.

5. Shakespeare in Love- I love any book or movie that features star-crossed lovers and the plight of Will and Viola had me from the get-go not to mention the amazing dialogue straight out of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

6. Gone with the Wind- A classic. The fiery relationship between Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara provides some of the best onscreen chemistry in any movie. When Rhett Butler utters his classic last line, “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn” you know he does --and can’t help but hope they’ll figure out a way to work it out.

7. The English Patient- If you love romances with political intrigue, forbidden love, and dramatic tension, the is the movie for you. The romance at the heart of the story is told through flashbacks and is set against the backdrop of WWII.

8. The Way We Were- The improbable love story between Robert Redford and Barbara Streisand never disappoints. From the amazing theme song to Robert Redford’s smoldering good looks, I can’t help but wish for a happy ending every time I watch it.

9. Love Story- Maybe because I met my own husband in college, this movie resonates with me. Yes, it’s a little melodramatic and I can only watch it every couple of years, but I love it and would happily still wear any one of Ali Mcgraws outfits from the movie.

10. Pretty Woman- Yes, it’s a cliché, but who wouldn’t want to be swept off their feet by the wealthy, handsome, piano playing Richard Gere? Complete with an amazing makeover scene and trip to the opera, Pretty Woman has all the romantic movie tropes I look for when I want to escape.
