Storm of the Gods

(An Areios Brothers Novel)
Publication date: August 27th 2018
Genres: Adult, Urban Fantasy

The first in a brand new urban fantasy series where gods roam and mortals fight, STORM OF THE GODS follows two brotherswho are caught in a conspiracy revolving around ancient artifacts, and find themselves siding with their supposed enemies rather than the Olympian who demands their loyalty…

Thirty years ago, the gods of Greek legend returned to the world. Their return restored their powers, which had been spent in a cataclysmic battle with the Titans. With the ancient deities imprisoned in Tartarus, the Olympians now reside in Néo Vasíleio, formerly known as California.

Twenty-four-year-old Derek Aerios is a war scion, a descendent of Ares, the God of War. He and his brother, eighteen-year-old Liam, capture mythological creatures and rogue scions as part of Ares’s elite military force. As he struggles to cope with his violent powers and the scars of a traumatic childhood, Derek tries to keep the two vows he has made: protect his brother, and never kill a human again.

But when Ares forces him to hunt and kill four rogue scions under Athena’s control—by threatening Liam’s life—Derek chooses to go after the scions in order to save his brother and keep his promise to himself.

Yet the closer Derek gets to the scions, the more he realizes that his orders are part of a deeper conspiracy that put him at odds with his mission and his conscience. Athena may not be the enemy, a traitor could be in their midst, and the Titans could be closer to freedom than ever before.

I let the power flow out of me, erasing everything else. I didn’t care that I was shaking, or that my heart was beating so hard it was likely to break against my ribcage. I didn’t care to be questioned anymore.

I rose from the chair slowly, shoving it away with the back of my legs. I only stopped moving when my hands were tugged back by the shackles.

Magic rolled through me in furious waves. It fueled my veins, flooded my aura with heat. I wasn’t using my magic to manifest any flames, but it didn’t matter.

In that moment, I was the fire.

“Call him off, Ares,” I commanded. “Because if you don’t, I will raze this building to the ground, and crush you with its broken pieces.”

I almost didn’t recognize my own voice. Was that really me speaking with such malice? Did I really just threaten to pummel the Olympian God of War with the shattered pieces of the Strató̱nes after I personally destroyed it?

Did I really care if that was what had to happen?

No. I mean it. If those images aren’t hallucinations, I will rip Marlow and Ares apart. Slowly. Piece by piece.

Part of me knew I was taking the threat too far. But after being trapped, stabbed in the neck, watching Liam bleed, and being mentally tortured with images that may or may not have been real… rationale was easy to discard.

If it was brutal promises and unrelenting power that got me back to the people I cared about—or to avenge any pain brought on them—then so fucking be it.

And if he called my bluff… Well, I was never much for showing control with power. If these shackles couldn’t restrain my magic, they sure as hell couldn’t restrain me.

Ares, God of War, butcher of monsters and men, deity with an unquenchable thirst for blood, smiled at me.

“This,” he breathed out. “This is why I chose you.”
