BITE ME by Louise Cypress
Pub. Date: May 14, 2018
Publisher: Louise Cypress
Formats: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 303
A nerdy high school senior transforms into a vampire vixen who's unaware that her hunky date for prom is the slayer sent to destroy her.
Morgan Taylor-Jackson can't wait for high school to end. In six months she leaves for UCLA and says goodbye to La Jolla, California and her parents' messy divorce. But when Morgan is bitten by a four-year-old boy, she becomes infected with a mysterious condition. Fever, insomnia, and a new bustline are only the beginning; Morgan morphs from nerd to bombshell.
As far as Van Xander is concerned, all vampires are evil, even the ones who reject human sacrifice and call themselves Puritans. When Helsing Incorporated sends Van to La Jolla to investigate the local coven, Morgan is his prime target. Pretending to be interested in her, Van asks Morgan out and puts her through a series of tests to determine her killer nature.
Morgan is thrilled to be dating a hot guy like Van and falls for him hard. As Van strings Morgan along, he grows increasingly guilty. Morgan is kind, compassionate, and a gooey romantic. Just as Van's mind begins to change, evil forces threaten everything. When prom night arrives, there are only two ways out of the ballroom: death or immortality.

My Review:
4 Out Of 5 Stars
Genre: Mystery, Supernatural, Teen, Vampires--
Forced to attend a dinner party at her mother's boyfriend's house, Morgan is less than enthused with the situation- even less so when she wakes up sick after passing out. Morgan has no idea how she got so sick, but after a few days she feels amazing, and oddly enough, it seems her skin is more clear and her figure is the perfect hour glass shape...she must have hit a late growth spurt or something, diet change? When new guy at school Van starts expressing interest in Morgan, she is so excited that she may get a date to prom and her first kiss! But something more sinister than a growth spurt is going on and Morgan is the last to know.
This was such a cute Vampire romance, a nice blend of romance, action, paranormal stuff, and mystery, all coming together to create an enjoyable YA adventure. I love vampire stories and I have not encountered one recently that was unique and fun, but I found that Bite Me hit both those targets, making it a fast engaging read. There was a murder mystery aspect to the plot, with enough twists to keep me guessing as to who was the killer. The romance was sweet and cute, if a bit fast and based on a lie, but nobody is perfect. Oh and the paranormal world built by Louise was completely different than I have encountered before, with Puritan vampires and a religious sect that reforms "bad" vamps and a possible bat situation.
The story was narrated from Morgan's and Van's point of views and I enjoyed the conflict and personality differences. There could not be two more different characters and voices. Van is a knowledgeable warrior, jaded and a little bored, ready to take on the world and completely aware of the things that go bump in the night (even if his girl skills are lacking). Morgan was clueless, about life and love, an almost naive teen girl who spends a majority of her time thinking about her first kiss and prom- Morgan is incredibly smart, but at times so stupid about her decisions and truths. Her ability to explain away her changes was impressive- the girl could be queen of denial!
Overall, I really enjoyed the story, blowing through it in just a few hours because I wanted to see how everything would play out. I highly recommend this story and I look forward to the next book in what I discovered was a series (and the next book features Esma, who was my favorite character in this story!).
I received this title for reviewing purposes.
