The Immortal Brotherhood Book 1 by Alesha Escobar & H.M. Jones

Genre: Paranormal Fantasy

Raina Black steals treasures from warlords, spies on governments and corporations, and sleeps like a baby at night. But after a particularly rough job where she inexplicably wakes up in a tomb in Cairo, things get weird.

First, Noah Mason, a man she swears she saw die, approaches her, claiming to be a demon hunter. Then, Noah insists she must fulfill her family legacy by helping him restore the Immortal Brotherhood...before all hell breaks loose.

But Raina wants no part of it. Going up against dark supernatural forces is above her pay grade. However, when the promise of a cure for her terminally ill sister hangs in the balance, Raina decides that the Immortal Brotherhood could solve her problems.

Between dodging bounty hunters, non-sparkly vampires, and Noah Mason’s smoldering gaze, Raina has to use her skill and wit to pull off the most dangerous job she’s ever taken on.

THE IMMORTALS is the first book of the Immortal Brotherhood series by bestselling author of The Gray Tower Trilogy Alesha Escobar and award-winning author H.M. Jones. Grab your copy today!

My Review:

3.5 Out of 5 Stars

Genre: Another-World, Ghosts, Heart-Wrenching, Mystery, Scary, Supernatural, Suspense--

Raina has been moonlighting as a thief to help cover the cost of her sister's medical treatments, but this time she is in over her head. When her morals kick in and she refuses to turn over her stolen item, Raina has no idea that she just became a target for something she does not understand. Noah has always known of his family's role in fighting evil, he just never knew that he would have to step up so soon after tragedy. When he is sent to protect an unknown woman who is thrust into the middle of a supernatural war she knows nothing about, he ends up botching the mission. But it seems that Noah and Raina are going to meet again whether they want to or not and the fate of the world rests on their shoulders.

The world that the author created was completely unique and creative, with all kinds of supernatural powers including immortality, time travel, regeneration, and all kinds of psychic gifts. It is like every previous supernatural book came together to have this interesting paranormal baby! Vampires were hinted at and briefly appeared, the most creepy and unique version that I have ever seen and I can't wait to see what other changes the author will make to the usual supernatural.

I was super confused when The Immortals started. The reader is thrust right into the middle of a hostage scene with no backstory and only hints of what is going on, something about an artifact and morals and hinted at violence, and then lots of dangerous getaway action with a few deaths thrown in for flavor. And still there was no backstory! It took a few chapters before I could start to piece together what was going on in the supernatural world and with the overall plot. I will say that I usually love being thrown into the action in a story, but this was harder to understand so I felt a little disconnected to the book. I think I would have been more instantly engaged if there had been a chapter or two lead up before. I think about half way through I became invested and there were some crazy supernatural battles and giant plot twist to keep me on my toes.

The ending was surprising and now I can't wait to jump into the next book! I have no idea what will happen to Noah and Raina next but count me in for finding out.

I reviewed a complimentary copy of this title.

A Discovery of Faeries (The Immortal Brotherhood Book 2)

When Noah Mason’s boss ventures into Faerieland and doesn’t return, he figures he ought to get her back before apocalyptic chaos reigns.

Lady Arabella is the only person on earth who can open and shut doorways to the mythical land of magic and terror, and if her power falls into the wrong hands, everyone’s screwed.

But, he’s not going alone.

The raven-haired Raina Black with her powerful Seer Stone is by his side, joined by Chinonso the Reaper and Thomas the Time Traveler. Unfortunately, they all must tolerate Raina’s double-crossing sister Trixie, as well. After her brush with dark magic, they don’t trust her to be left alone, and her gift with sorcery may come in handy.

In this second installment, the Immortal Brotherhood faces down otherworldly creatures, trying not to bring on the wrath of the Faerie Queen, while also outmaneuvering a secret society seeking to possess powers never meant for men. Throw into the mix a bloodthirsty serial killer with dangerous magic at his command, and the Brotherhood has their work cut out for them.
