Book Blurb:

Scythe (Dimension Drift Prequels #1)

Truth time. I go to a Learning Squirrel High School. Don’t judge. On second thought, judge away. Learning Squirrel is one step above attending class in a junkyard. But what do you expect? Everything’s made out of garbage these days. At least, I have my freelance work to keep Mom and me housed, clothed, and fed. How? I’m your regular high school science geek for hire… only my work manipulates space-time. These gigs pay really well, but the government wants people like me dead. Good thing I’m super careful about hiding from their detection systems.

Then I screw up a job. Badly. My house slips into two-dimensional space-time. It only lasts for a few seconds, but the move still sets off about a dozen government alarms. If they track me down, Mom and I are good as dead. Long story short, I need to pay someone off, hide the evidence, and keep us safe.

Unfortunately, that means asking the Scythe for help. He runs the local underground crime scene and has absolutely no conscience. Or I'm pretty sure he doesn’t. It’s hard to think straight when a guy’s that hot in an evil Mafioso kingpin kind of way. More importantly, he's a crime lord who can conceal my slip-up with a few clicks on his minion’s computer keyboards. But the Scythe has his price. In this case, he wants me to finish a certain dimensional prototype for him in twenty-four hours. I can do it, but it might mean Learning Squirrel High gets blown up in the process. Oh yes, and there's also my new hot classmate who may or may not be an alien... and he says he'll do anything to help me.

This job won't be easy, but I’ve gotten out of worse scrapes. Maybe.

This new series is perfect for: fans of urban fantasy, action & adventure, cool science, evil corporations, forbidden romance and hot new classmates who may or may not be aliens.

My Review:

5 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Aliens, Another-World, Mystery, Survival, Suspense, Teen--

Meimi has been trying to hold her life together after her sister Luci went missing a and her mother just shut down a year ago. But holding everything together is hard when you live on the fringes of a society where science is outlawed and you are forced to do small jobs for a crime lord the Scythe to pay the pills. But when her mother unexpectedly shows enthusiasm for a project, Meimi jumps at the chance to get involved- especially if it means finding her sister. What she didn't count on was the explosion of science that will cause the Merciless (aka the govt) to take notice and for a stranger to appear...

Firstly, thanks a lot Christina- I thought we were friends! And yes, I read the disclaimer in the front of the book that this was a cliff hanger- and it was, it really really was! Which would be ok, except for the fact I can't get my grabby hands on another story for months. Sniff, sniff! This was so good, and as per all of Christina's books, I am hooked. Side note for you, I am a total fangirl over Ms. Bauer's magical creations (aka books aka random stories filled with great characters, snark and mayhem!) so I will read whatever she wants to write at this point- but that means the bar is set pretty dang high....and I was not disappointed.

Scythe is the first Dimension Drift prequel novella, just a snippet really to introduce the characters and hint at the destructed world, and then BAM it is over and I have so many questions! Expect a quick read when you pick this up, roughly 100 pages, so you can blow through the book in a short period of time ( ...and then attempt to patiently wait for the next.) There is so much going on in this novella, I was kept on my toes the entire time. Be it random science, opening portals to new dimensions, evading capture, doing shady deals with crime bosses, betrayal, the humdrum of school with Lead Camper Dave (snicker), to a hot (alien) man-candy sent to help save the day. Yep, this was quite the ride and I highly enjoyed myself. Pick this up and expect to get sucked in to the Dimension Drift.

Book Blurb:

Duty Bound (Angelbound Origins #0.5)

As the High Prince of the demon-fighting thrax, Lincoln knows he must marry for political gain. Not that he minds. For all of his eighteen years, Lincoln’s been bound to his duty. Fighting demons is his life, and he’s never given romance a second thought. Instead, the High Prince lives for the days when he leaves his hidden realm to fight demons on Earth.

Then, everything changes.

Lincoln and his nobles become forced to visit Purgatory, the home of quasi-demons (who are mostly human with a bit of demonic DNA). Here Lincoln spies Myla Lewis, a lady warrior who enflames his heart, ignites his interest, and inspires his respect. Trouble is, Myla’s also a quasi. By thrax law, Lincoln must kill anything demonic—not date them.

For the first time in his life, Lincoln wonders if he’ll follow his duty…or heed the demands of his heart.

Don't miss this prequel novella to the best-selling Angelbound, told from Prince Lincoln's point of view!

My Review:

4.5 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Angels, Another-World, Royal-Court, Supernatural, Suspense--

Lincoln will do his duty to his people and marry for alliances not the silly concept of love, but before he can focus on making that contract, he first must stop the bane of his existence, Lord Aldred, who is leading his men to their doom in his need to seek out glory. Lincoln needs to figure out a way to stop it without causing his own execution.

Lincoln is so dreamy...and competent, deadly, rational, and full of scheming. I knew I liked that guy, but it was so great being inside his head and seeing how he thinks and plots. He really is the best leader that the Thrax could have ever asked for and I loved how he manipulated everything just the way he wanted it- and his fighting skills are top notch (which is what you are looking for in a romantic partner, right?). Oh, and side note, his dad seriously has always been a total douche bag ( I had strong violent urges towards him and the Earl).

Duty Bound only (yes, scoff away with my only- Christina usually gets 5 stars from me as a general rule since I love her stories) anyway, this got 4.5 stars since there was not nearly enough Myla here. I heart her and her spunk, humor, determination and overall badass-ness and would have loved to see just a few more snippets of her demon hunting. Ooo, a Myla-Lincoln interaction from Lincoln's point of view would have been absolutely perfect (I am holding out hope for the whole Angelbound from Lincoln's view)! And yes, I know this was Lincoln's prequel story, and boy what a story it was, but I will always hold out for more Myla.

It was interesting to read this prequel novella after having read books 1-5 in the series, to go back to before everything else happened and start all over again. I am glad that I got the opportunity to see this snippet before Angelbound and suggest Angelbound be read first just so you can get a feel for the world and the mysterious beauty Lincoln spots in the trees. I am so ready for the next book of Myla and Lincoln mischief.

Book Blurb:

Moonlight And Midtown (Fairy Tales of the Magicorum #1.5)

Years ago, Elle — never call her Cinderella — escaped her evil step family in order to build a new life for herself in Manhattan. Today, Elle’s awful past is a distant memory. In fact, Elle even attends West Lake Prep, an exclusive high school where regular humans mix with members of the Magicorum, such as fairies, shifters and witches. Although she still must live in hiding from her evil step family, Elle always has found ways to get whatever her heart desires.

That is, until Alec Le Charme. Sure, Alec is the heir to the Le Charme dynasty of high-end jewelers, but he's also kind, charismatic, and has a knee-melting smile.

Long story short, Elle has fallen for Alec, hard. Unfortunately, thanks to Elle’s evil step family, the Le Charme heir is absolutely off limits. In fact, if Elle and Alec so much as kiss, it will start a magical chain reaction that would end in powerful factions of witches and wizards going to war. As a result, Elle and Alec vow to stay friends, no matter what. Then West Lake Prep holds a masquerade ball. Identities get mixed up and forbidden kisses are finally shared.

Time for the Magicorum to go to war, and for Elle to confront her hidden past in ways she never thought possible.

Perfect for readers who love young adult books, contemporary fantasy, fairy tales, satire/comedy, paranormal romance, gamma guys, fairies, magic users, shapeshifters, and coming of age stories.

My Review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Supernatural, Faeries, Fairytale, Retelling, Romance, Teen, Werewolves, Witches--

Bryar Rose has only own she was a wolf for a month and can honestly say she has not gotten a hold of the situation at all. Between her wolf popping out at the most terrible of times, and her destroyed wardrobe from all the shifting, Bryar feels a little overwhelmed. But luckily she has her guy Knox to help with the wolfy problems and her bestie Elle who knows just the place to shop for a new outfit.

“So we’re your knights.”

Surprisingly enough, it’s really cool to find out that you have knights, even if they made up the title themselves and tell you about it while naked and covering their junk with bras. It’s the thought that counts, really.

I read book 2 before I read this novella, which happens to be 1.5 and works as the perfect bridge between the two stories. This series is the perfect adventure for anyone who likes a twist on the typical fairytale world, where all the characters have a template to follow- but it appears as if nobody is sticking to the rules they were given. I enjoy the backstory for the characters as well as the conflicts and default behavior expected from the original tales. The best part of the book though is the relationship dynamic between Bryar and her people, be it protective Knox, loyal Elle or charming Alec, I always enjoy the banter and interaction.

Side note- Sheep faeries were the best part of the book, not gonna lie. They and the entire shopping scene was so ridiculous and bizarre that I could not help to be enchanted while I was reading. It was a nice, creative spin that I never expected and fully appreciated, and the intense level of want Bryar's wolf experienced was so realistic to my puppy and his favorite chew toys.

Overall this is a cute little snippet story into the trials that is being Bryar Rose. I highly recommend reading the series in order to make sure you do not miss anything- and trust me, you do not want to miss anything!

Oops.

Perfect for readers who love sword and sorcery filled with magic, necromancy, witches and wizards. This series combines fierce females, paranormal romance and epic fantasy. Enjoy!
