POWER OF FIVE by Alex Lidell

Pub. Date: May 4, 2018

Publisher: Danger Bearing Press

Formats: Paperback, eBook

Pages: 312

Four elite fae warriors. One mortal female. A magical bond they can’t allow—or resist.

Orphaned and sold to a harsh master, Lera’s life is about mucking stalls, avoiding her master’s advances, and steering clear of the mystical forest separating the mortal and fae worlds. Only fools venture into the immortal realms, and only dark rumors come out... Until four powerful fae warriors appear at Lera’s barn.

River, Coal, Tye, and Shade have waited a decade for their new fifth to be chosen, the wounds from their quint brother’s loss still raw. But the magic has played a cruel trick, bonding the four immortal warriors to... a female. A mortal female.

Distractingly beautiful and dangerously frail, Lera can only be one thing—a mistake. Yet as the males bring Lera back to the fae lands to sever the bond, they discover that she holds more power over their souls than is safe for anyone... especially for Lera herself.

Power of Five is a full-length reverse-harem fantasy novel.

My Review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Another-World, Faeries, Reverse Harem, Royal-Court, Supernatural, Werewolves--

Leralynn assumes her life will be more of the same, dodging blows and advances from her master, always cold and hungry. But one event changed her life completely, the night the fey warriors stepped out of their world to claim her as their fifth. A magical bond that has never claimed a mortal before, the four warriors know that Lera is not meant to be part of their group and they must venture to their elders to break the connection, for the good and safety of all of them- regardless of what the bond tells them.

I have read and loved two books by Alex in the last sixish months from two very different series she created when I saw that she was writing a book about the Fey and a reverse harem (my new guilty obsession!) Mix a great author with one of my favorite magical creatures and totally unrealistic love pentagon? Yes please! There was no doubt that I was going to read this book, more of when can I get it in my grabby hands. Oh and it doesn't hurt that the cover is so incredibly gorgeous, I have a serious case of cover love going on!

The story is predominantly narrated by Leralynn the completely helpless, clueless mortal girl who through no fault of her own has made her way into a magical warrior bond. To say she is out of place pretty much puts it mildly. I liked that she was aware of her flaws and willing to concede them and her lack of knowledge with no shame, completely over her head in this magic filled world. The guys had to save her life on a regular basis, which I need to change in the future- she needs to be the kick-ass heroine to keep up with the guys. And sure, they like her as their sweet damsel, but I would like her better as a warrior too. With more of Coal's crazy training, she is on her way. I really liked her emotional strength though, no over reaction or freak-outs, just acceptance and training. She most likely is the emotional backbone the testosterone needs.

Every once and a while we get a chapter told from one of the four male's point of view and those were the best. I loved seeing what was stewing under their calm outward shell and I hope there is more from them in later books. Each guy had his own unique personality as well as strengths and weaknesses. River is the leader with nobility in his past, very by the books and expects respect. Coal is the damaged, broody guy who understands Lera is ways no one else can since their backgrounds are similar and refuses to coddle her. Tye the fun, sweet one that never pushes her and is always a source of comfort. And Shade, the wolf, more wild than tame- and my personal favorite (not because there is anything wrong with the other males, but because he is werewolf like, which is my top favorite supernatural creature!

Let's just say that the heat level was WOAH and it escalated pretty dang quickly to get there. Everything was mellow, maybe like 2 steamy hands free kisses, and then BAM! there was some intense sexual gratification. Definitely an adult book, if you get my drift, but nothing over the top to make me uncomfortable, which I very mush appreciated. Yep, that is all I will say about that.

Overall this was a very fast, fun, paranormal romance, heavy on the character and world building. This is the start of what I expect to be a hot, action packed series...but as a side note, this ends on a high note (hehe, just wait) but in the middle of things, with almost nothing resolves. Book 2 I hope has just as much adventure, but more answers too.

I am voluntarily reviewing an advance, complimentary copy of this book.
