Review: Written in the Stars: (A Havenwood Falls High Novella) by Kallie Ross

Book Blurb:

Welcome to Havenwood Falls, a small town in the majestic mountains of Colorado. A town where legacies began centuries ago, bloodlines run deep, and dark secrets abound. A town where nobody is what you think, where truths pose as lies, and where myths blend with reality. A place where everyone has a story. Including the high schoolers. This is only but one…

The Kasun wolf pack has always been led by a female alpha, but when Willa Kasun’s mother died to give her life, her father stepped in as leader. Now that she’s about to come of age, the pack will once again be led by a female, as it is meant to be. Except Willa hasn’t shifted yet.

Less wolf and more cub-dud, Willa has until her next birthday to shift and claim her place as alpha, or she’ll lose it forever. Something her pack mates won’t let her forget. The few supernatural powers that have manifested are her secret and the only hope she has of unleashing her wolf.

Distractions of life as a junior at Havenwood Falls High provide a needed escape from the pack’s pressure, making Willa feel more like a teenager and less like an alpha every day. Then there’s Tarron Wilde, a sarcastic and striking elf, who makes her wonder if being alpha is really what she wants.

Her heart yearns for a reality unfamiliar and feared by her pack, while her mind can’t accept being replaced as alpha. The future of her entire pack relies on Willa’s choice—embrace what was written in the stars so long ago or choose to fight for what her heart desires.

My Review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Another World, Faeries, Romance, Supernatural, Teen, Vampires, Werewolves, Witches--

Willa has never been able to shift with her packmates, making her an outcast among the wolves. To make matters worse, if she can't shift by her next birthday, she loses the role of alpha to her archenemy. Tired of being mistreated, Willa seeks out the outcast group, a bunch of kids from all different species who choose to be friends regardless. And there just so happens to be a cute boy in this new group who helps Willa to see life in a new way.

I don't usually like novellas and avoid them like the plague, but I have been interested in the Havenwood Falls series since I discovered it months ago and when I saw that there was a teen version of the series I knew I had to get my hands of the novellas. This is my second Teen Havenwood novella and I am completely in love with this series. Each novella is written by a different author who creates there own characters and struggles all within the confines of this secret town where supernatural species live in harmony (for the most part).

This was such a cute novella dealing with accepting yourself, making your own choices and standing up for what you believe in- all set in a supernatural world. Oh and did I mention the cute love story that unfolds within the pages- yeah, we have that too. I loved how the story was a nice mix of paranormal issues like pack dynamics and shifting concerns as well as high school issues such as ACT prep and homecoming.

I loved the characters that Kallie was able to bring to life in such a short amount of pages. I felt like I knew Willa and Tarron really well, as well as the rest of the "Scooby Gang". Kallie did a great job of giving everyone personalities and quirks that I found endearing and relatable regardless of being supernatural, and the plot was well paced and wrapped up within the pages. That is not to say that I would't love more from these characters, but I did not feel like I was missing out on anything with this being a novella length.

Overall this was a super cute read and I look forward to more from Havenwood Falls as well as from this author.

I received this title for reviewing purposes.
