A Double Shot of Bourbon
A.C. Land
(Bourbon Series #2)
Publication date: October 18th 2016
Genres: Romance, Young Adult
My Review: 4 Out Of 5 Stars Genre: Mystery, Romance, Teen-- Book 2 in the series picks up a little before book 1 ends, but told from Lonna and Collin’s points of view this time. Collin has always been in love with Lonna, to him she is the perfect girl who can do no wrong. Lonna on the other hand knows how attractive and wonderful Collin is, and what he feels for her, but she will never give him the chance because of where he comes from. But one stolen night sets off a chain of events that neither saw coming, be it the emotional devastation or the danger everyone is in. I would recommend that this book be read after book one, because even though it is a new set of characters, the plot is one continuous storyline set within a few weeks time. I had no idea that this was going to be such a freaking convoluted series when I picked this book, but this is only book 2 in who knows how many books. To put it simply, nothing resolves here. Expect a messy, angsty emotional read with lots of loose ends that just leave the reader hanging, desperate for the next book. I enjoyed this book much more than the first one, predominantly because I love Collin. He is the poster boy for being awesome, be it in school, sports, working multiple jobs, volunteering, and his morals (which is shocking based on where he comes from). He is so great, yet people have a hard time looking past who his father is (as well as his trouble making brothers). In the first book he seemed so innocent and naïve, always having Luke take care of him, but here we see the side of him where he takes care of others. Sigh, he was dreamy. And sweet. It was really hard for me to understand Lonna and her motivations. I could never imagine staying in an abusive relationship or letting others use me, but yet again I have never lived a life like she has nor felt so bad about who I was. I liked her strength when it came to Charli, but then her own life weakness was hard to accept. Her mother was the devil and so was her ”boyfriend”, and the fact she let both control her actions was hard for me to watch. She appeared so strong but was very much so abused. It hurt to see what she thought of herself and I rooted her on regardless. I liked this book better than the first one (which I liked and blew through in one afternoon because I heart Lucas) because the characters felt like they had more depth (in my opinion). By the end I fully understood who each one was and what they were capable, making them real to me. I do love a good character driven book, and this was that. Book one needs to be read first, but this sequel was better. Minus the terrible ending that is building to what I don’t even know I could guess. I will need to get my hands on book 3 ASAP. I received this title from the author in return for my honest review. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out Book 1 in the series: Book Blurb: A Shot of Bourbon (Bourbon Series #1) Book Blurb: In the little highway town of Bourbon, Missouri, deadly secrets lurk behind southern charm. Great review, Katherine! I love it when a sequel is even better than the first - I find often it suffers from boring, middle book syndrome! Glad you liked it! :)
