Blog Tour & Giveaway: Soul Finder (The Immortal Gene #2) by Jacinta Maree

Book Blurb:

Since being discovered as Soulless, Nadia has become a target for both terrorist groups and government corporations. Now, her only hope for survival rests in the hands of the man sent out to kill her: Diesel, the Mad Dog terrorist.

Diesel is determined to free himself of the never ending curse of reincarnation and the haunting memories that plague his mind. But when his search leads him to Nadia, a greater desire stills him from taking her life.

Unable to see into Diesel’s cracking mind, Nadia instead puts her faith into his strength, fueled by eleven generations of unmatched rage and insanity. Their tight-rope relationship balances the two between life and death, love and rage, trust and betrayal.

Tension pulls at the hems of their dangerous companionship, and as time runs out all madmen must eventually make their choice.

Book two of the thrilling Immortal Gene series dives deeper into the danger of trusting your heart over your head.

My Review:

3.5 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Dystopian, Survival--

Book 2 picks up right where book 1 ends, with Nadia being pulled from the water that she had plummeted into. Next thing she knows, she is being tied up and dragged through the forest, being chased by drifters, captured by drones, potentially slaughtered for meat, and then collared for the sex trade. Pretty much just another day in the disaster that Nadia has found herself in. As she tries to navigate the new dangerous obstacles put in front of her, Nadia also tries to understand more about being a Soulless. When information becomes available that may lead to more information about the Soulless, Nadia has hope that things can change.

Wow, I forgot how dark the first book was until I started reading this sequel. Never think that this is the worst possible scenario while reading this series, because trust me, it gets worse. This is not a standalone book, it needs to be read in order for the story to make sense and so you don’t miss character development and world building, which is such a big part of this adventure/survival dystopian.

Nadia is a blank slate in a world of bodies with multiple lives and crazy shoved in them. She has managed to hold on to her ethics and compassion when everyone desperately tried to beat it out of her (fairly literally most times). Sure she wants to survive, but she puts herself in danger for others repeatedly, even though she may only get this one shot at life. I also was intrigued by the dynamic between her and Diesel, and how intense her connection to him is. Diesel is legitimately crazy even when he is “himself”, but at times other personalities come forward and are even worse, like homicidal terrorists mad scientists. I would not call this a love story by any means, but the fact that any warm fuzzies can survive this type of living is impressive.

I was pleasantly surprised by the ending of the book, which almost didn’t fit since everything else is doom and gloom. There was hope, something that I assumed was long past dead here, but it showed up and has potential (you know, pending the world is not destroyed first and all, but whatever). I look forward to seeing what Nadia will do next and ultimately finding out who will survive the end. This is a very unique dystopian series when so many are the same, but be advised, this is at times disturbing and very dark.

I received this title in return for my honest review.
