Twisted Sisters by Kimber Leigh Wheaton (The Orion Circle #2)
It’s a child’s toy—what could go wrong?
While playing with a spirit board, two sorority sisters summon the vindictive spirits of three women brutally murdered by a psychopath. Join Logan, Kacie, and the rest of the Orion Circle as they delve into the disturbing events of the past to find the key to freeing the spirits.
But this isn’t any ordinary haunting. These ghosts were banished before, and now they have returned more powerful than anyone could have imagined. Anger breeds hatred and hatred leads to darkness—these phantoms are on the verge of losing their last spark of humanity and becoming completely lost to the shadows.
Can Logan and Kacie convince the tortured souls to embrace the light and move on, or will the spirits succumb to the hypnotic pull of evil, leading to an eternity of torment and suffering?

My Review:
4 Out of 5 Stars
Genre: Ghosts, Mystery, Supernatural, Werewolves, Witches--
The Orion Circle is called to investigate a strange occurrence in a Sorority House after a couple of girls play with a ouija board. There might just be a haunting that requires more than originally expected and hopefully the team is ready for it, personal baggage and all.
This is the second book in the Orion Circle series and I read somewhere that it could be read as a standalone so I figured why not give it a go since I have not read the first book. Well, yes it can be read as a complete story because there was enough back story to not make me feel lost and the ghost story/case was brand new so I was not behind there either. What this book did do was make me really interested in reading the first book in the series to see how the characters all came together. The story was a very fast read and I flew through it in just a few hours.
I was surprised by how dark the plot was. And I feel a little stupid saying that considering I was reading a ghost story, but for some reason I expected it to be more cutesy and fun than the serious and spooky that I got. I was surprised, but not at all disappointed. The story dealt with evil ghosts, negative emotions, insanity, exorcisms, cults and brainwashing, lies, betrayal, torture and murder. Toss in a little self doubt, and ta-da, you have an engaging paranormal mystery on your hands.
The story alternated narration between Logan and Kacie, love interests who happen to be members of the Circle. I was instantly concerned with how the story was going to play out when the first chapter dealt with a betrayal and lack of communication that led to angsty behavior and bad choices. I was afraid that it was “one of those” kinds of teen books, the kind I hate to read full of stupid drama and a plot built on lack of communication. Well, I was happy to be wrong, since after the firstish chapter the betrayal was resolved maturely and real issues were given priority. Go team! The characters were very immature (in the sense that it was very pg) when it came to the romance, but incredibly mature when it came to dealing with personal issues as well as a terrible situation.
There were so many side characters that peaked my interest as well as the holes in the plot that did not get resolved that I need to read the next book in the series. I enjoyed the story and I look forward to more from this series and this author.
I received this title from the author and Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for my honest review.

Great review, Katherine! I'm glad you liked it even if you hadn't read the first book! The series as a whole sounds fun and well written and dark - which is right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in my tour! I'm glad you enjoyed the story :) I do have a rather dark streak when writing paranormal, so I think the series will continue in that direction.
