Blog Tour and Giveaway: Eerie by C.M. McCoy

Book Blurb:

Hailey’s dreams have always been, well...vivid. As in monsters from her nightmares follow her into her waking life vivid.

When her big sister goes missing, eighteen-year-old Hailey finds the only thing keeping her safe from a murderous 3,000-year-old beast is an equally terrifying creature who has fallen “madly” in love with her. Competing to win her affection, the Dream Creature, Asher, lures her to the one place that offers safety—a ParaScience university in Alaska he calls home. There, she studies the science of the supernatural and must learn to live with a roommate from Hell, survive her ParaScience classes, and hope the only creature who can save her from an evil immortal doesn’t decide to kill her himself.

My review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Another-World, Ghosts, Mystery, Romance, Supernatural--

Hailey has just a few months before she graduates and she and her sister can go away to college together. One night while working at the tavern her uncle owns, her sister goes to take the trash out and never returns, all that was left behind was her severed foot in her shoe. Hailey is positive that it has something to do with the purple eyed Envoys that she sees but that nobody else is aware of. Hailey will do anything to get her sister back, even if it puts herself at risk.

This was a strange mix of horror and gruesome imagery, hope and love, despair, randomness and quirky. There were alternate dimension and otherworldly beings made of light, teen school drama, family dynamics, police investigation, a tiny college that offers unusual degrees, government weapon experimentation, and don’t forget the mysterious hairstyling albino. I was not sure what I was reading when I started the story and for the first time I could not even a little bit predict what would happen next in the story. I was confused and intrigued at the same time by the plot and the characters, so I never wanted to put down the book, but instead try and figure out the next odd element the author threw out.

I really liked Hailey as a character. She was resilient, easy going, curious and smart. She had some hard things to experience in her short life and she never broke. Sure she bent a few times and had a moment where she was willing to let go, but she pulled herself up and reassessed what she wanted to do. She repelled people for unknown reasons, yet then still was able to find a silver lining to be happy for. She had such a sunny disposition (regardless of the awful) that it was impossible for me not to like her. There were so many side characters in the story it was interesting to see how they interacted with each other as well as with Hailey. And really, at times she seemed oblivious or she just did not give a damn, it was hard to tell, but I liked the attitude regardless.

At the heart of this book is a love story, yes it may be strange and unconventional with a Romeo and Juliet vibe, but it helps to drive the plot and explain the actions.

Overall I found this book to be odd and unique and the most random thing I think I had ever read and I absolutely loved every minute of it. I look forward to more by this author and everyone should read this bizarre adventure.

I received this title from the author in return for my honest review.

Author Bio:

C.M. McCoy is an Irish dancer and former Air Force officer living in the Great White North. Though B.S.'d in Chemical Engineering and German, she’s far happier writing stories involving Alaska and a body bag (with an awkward kiss in the mix.) While working emergency dispatch for Alaska State Troopers, she learned to speak in 10-codes, which she still does...but only to annoy her family.

You can find her on Goodreads, Twitter, Facebook and her website
