Blog Tour and Giveaway: Never Say Never by Emily Goodwin

Book Blurb:

My life was full of nevers.

It was never supposed to go this way. I was never supposed to lose Mom so soon. I was never supposed to worry about making ends meet, to worry about losing the farm. I never thought I’d be working a job I hate, with a boss who was more interested in what was under my shirt than in my head. Saving neglected and abused horses had been my whole life. It was my reprieve, my sanity, my last saving grace in a cruel world. I never thought I’d grow to resent it, but I guess there is a first for everything.

Then I met him. The Hollywood playboy. The entitled, cocky asshole that I can’t get out of my head. I never thought there could be more to him than sex appeal and an infamous reputation of loving and leaving. I never thought I’d fall for him, put my heart on the line, and risk letting him completely destroy me.

But you know what they tell you…never say never.

My Review:

3.5 Out of 5 Stars

Genre: New Adult--

Haley has spent the last few months trying to recuperate physically and emotionally after the accident that caused her mother's death. Haley feels like the walls are caving in on her, trying to pay bill, work a new job, continue the horse rescue her mother started and deal with depression and PTSD from the accident. Aiden on the other hand has life handed to him as a famous actor. His life seems so perfect, at least the life that people see. He has tons of personal baggage and depression, but puts on a show for the public. When he is forced to leave LA and go to Montana to film a new movie, Aiden and Haley collide.

This book is all about second chances, be it for the horses that are rescued, to Haley learning to live without her mom and Aiden learning to cope with his demons and form a true bond with another human being. The book is very much an angsty New Adult romance between complete opposites who should never even have crossed paths, yet are better off for having done so. This book is ideal for people who like a HEA, because the ending was the best part of the story. The author shows her love of horses through the details and descriptions of the horses and horse care, causing the reader to also experience warm fuzzies for the animals that may not have been there before. This was a sweet feel good, quick read for those who want a happy relationship story.

I loved the fact that Haley was at first completely turned off by who Aiden was. Sure she was attracted, but pretty is only skin deep, and she saw the jerk that lived underneath. Thankfully for Aiden (and the plot of the book) that she gave him a chance. I think Haley was a good person who just reached her limit with what she could handle on her own, and dropping onto her lap was a gift wrapped Aiden. I loved her relationship with her best friend as well as the relationships she had with each horse. I rooted for her to be ok and for her to overcome the terror that was the accident so she could be whole again. She was really well written as a character, someone who was real that I would want to be friends with.

I instantly found Aiden to be a total douche bag. I never use this term because I don't care for it, but it is the most appropriate description for him. He was a total jack ass, having sex with any woman he could find, drinking until he is drunk regardless of time or obligations, using prescription pain pills because real life was too much of a challenge, being so intoxicated that he sleeps in his own urine and vomit, having someone else dress and feed him because it is too much work. See? He was like a man sized sexually active toddler stuck at terrible two. And yes, I understand, he had problems, blah blah, but so do a lot of people and they don't let their life be such a mess. I can easily say that I did not like him for the first half of the book. In their relationship, it felt like Aiden was at first really attracted to the pain he saw in Haley, and if you ask me that is no way to have a healthy relationship, not even a little. He does end up liking her for what she does for others and who she is as a person as well, being the first to admit what he really feels regardless of obstacles which made me start to respect him as a person. He ends up doing some really amazing things and he become a much better person due to the relationship, pretty much redeeming himself for the terrible acts he did in the first half of the story. I do like the realistic aspect that the author brings to Aiden's drug and alcohol abuse, the idea that it is not a problem, he can stop anytime, just one more drink, ect.

Overall I thought the story was good, I really liked the plot and the whole two different worlds romance thing. I thought Haley was a great character who was likable and real, where as I struggled to like or sometimes just tolerate Aiden as a person for half the book causing my rating of the book to decrease. This is my second Emily Goodwin book and I have liked her stories and look forward to more from her.

I received this title from the author and Love Between The Sheets Promotions in exchange for my honest review.
