Blog Tour & Giveaway: The Boyfriend Whisperer 2.0 (The Boyfriend Whisperer) by Linda Budzinski

Book Blurb:

The Boyfriend Whisperer by Linda Budzinski

Publication Date: February 19, 2019

Publisher: Swoon Romance

Alicea Springer was Boyfriend Whisperer Enterprises’ top success story. That is, until her dream date, Ty Walker, dumped her a week before prom. Now it’s senior year, and Alicea has taken over the business and given it an upgrade using an automated matchmaking program designed to help her classmates find their perfect match.

Alicea has no interest in using the program herself. She already knows who her perfect match is … Ty. She doesn’t need an app to tell her that (or worse, match her up with someone else). In a moment of weakness, Alicea allows her friends to convince her to give the program a try. To her horror, it matches her with the last boy on earth she'd ever want to date — Darius Groves, the class deadbeat.

When she and Darius are paired up for a class project, Alicea learns there's more to him than his bad reputation. But the more she spends time with Darius, the more she questions their match. They have so little in common. Why did her program match them?

Can Alicea defy the odds and make a match of her own heart’s desire? Or will the matchmaker remained unmatched?

My Review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Romance, Teen--

Tech girl Alicea developed an app that allows her fellow classmates to fill out a questionnaire and it will match them with a compatible person to date. All around her couples are finding love because of her match making service- except she can't get the guy she wants, the boy who broke her heart. When her friend push her to try her own app and move on, the app tells Alicea that her perfect match is the bad boy slacker Darius, a boy she would never go out with! When Alicea and Darius are paired together for a class project, Alicea gets a chance to actually get to know Darius as a person. But can she overcome her past assumptions to be happy?

Disclaimer here- I had no idea this was the second book in a series. Maybe I should have taken the "2.0" in the title as a clue, but I was sadly clueless. Anyway, that being said, I did not feel like I was missing out at all from not having read the first book. The Boyfriend Whisperer 2.0 was a complete story with a standalone romance that I enjoyed. Where there was random mentions to what happened in book 1, I do not feel like I missed out on anything. I most certainly want to read the first book now though.

Can I just throw out the fact that any boy who steps up to help a girl get over her very public embarrassment and agrees to perform a Romeo and Juliet inspired scene is a keeper? Just saying.

The one thing that I had such a hard time with this book was Alicea's desperation. It was so real and uncomfortable, you could feel her spiraling away and losing her confidence and self-worth trying to get this boy who is so not worth her. And it was so realistic. I could easily see a teen girl (or adult woman) doing this and I wanted to have an intervention. Nobody should grovel or beg for love- if he (or she) does not want you, there is someone better out there who would love to have an opportunity. Ok, I am off my soap box.

Overall I found this to be fast, cute read that I could easily get lost in. I picked this up and was finished the next day, it was so fun to read and engaging. I rooted for Alicea and Darius and I am always a sucker for a Happily Ever After (for now- they are teens, be realistic people!) I look forward to reading more books from Linda in the future.

  2. Hi, Jeffrey! Thanks for stopping by to read Katherine's post on my new book (and thank you, Katherine, for posting!!)! I definitely love to meet fans of my books. Book clubs visits are the best, because it is always so interesting to hear what people take away. Everyone is reading from their own prism, so they often have different interpretations from what I was thinking when I wrote the words. It's such a cool thing. My very favorite comment was when a reader once said something in one of my books made her "want to be a better person." That was amazing! Thanks for the question, and happy reading!
